Best Book of the Month

Workout Song of the Day: “Resistance” by Muse

My peeps over at YA Highway are being very cruel. They’re asking us to choose the best book we’ve read all month. Seriously? That’s like asking me to choose my favorite type of cake or candy or ice cream or…okay, maybe I should lay off with the food analogies.

So I’m currently reading Cracked Up to Be right now, and if you’ve been following this blog, you know that I’m a complete gooberoo (yes, this is a word) over Ms. Summers. But even though I can’t put the book down, I still haven’t finished reading it. Which means that I can’t officially give it the “Best Book” title…yet.

However, what I will give props to (does anyone even say “props” anymore?) is the short story collection Bleed by Laurie Faria Stolarz.

Ms. Stolarz is best known for her Blue is for Nightmares series, and after reading Bleed, I know that I’ll definitely be checking those out. Bleed follows the points-of-view of ten different teens on a summer day. One betrays her best friend, one cheats on his girlfriend, another runs away from home…all compelling narratives. Blood plays a factor in each story, but not in a creepy way. I won’t share too much about that since I want you guys to read this story and become a gooberoo (there’s that word again) over it like I have.

I’m eager to see what books you all recommend! πŸ™‚

  1. Ooooh, that sounds like a cool collection. I like blood…okay, that sounds a little strange. It sounded better in my head. Anyway, I need to read more short story collections so I might snatch that away from you- yoink!

  2. I haven't heard of this and I find this soooo interesting — are all the stories connected? I feel like it's rare to have a short story collection in YA, so it would be a refreshing change!
